Originally from Seattle, Lauren Van Kempen holds a Bachelor of Music in Opera Performance and Cello Performance. Based in France since 2010, she is a multifaceted artist working as an opera singer, musical theatre performer, and vocal coach.
A versatile musician and actress, Lauren performs an exceptionally wide-ranging repertoire, from the Golden Age of musical theatre to Stravinsky. Since establishing her career in France, she has captivated audiences with her luminous soprano voice, expressive stage presence, and natural comedic flair.
In the 2026–2027 season, Lauren appears as Lucille in No, No, Nanette with Les Frivolités Parisiennes, performing at the Théâtre de l’Athénée, Opéra de Reims, Théâtre de Caen, and Opéra de Rennes. She will also perform alongside Natalie Dessay as Electra in Gypsy at Opéra du Rhin.
Recent highlights include the Molière Award-winning production of Spamalot (Best Musical 2024), in which she starred as the Lady of the Lake, earning nominations at the Trophées de la Comédie Musicale. Her operatic and musical theatre credits include Carmen (Micaëla, Frasquita), Into the Woods (The Witch), La Bohème (Mimì) with Cie Mobilo-Lyricus, Wonderful Town (Violet) at Opéra de Toulon, Kiss Me, Kate (Lois – cover) at the Théâtre du Châtelet and Théâtre de la Ville de Luxembourg, and The King and I at Théâtre du Châtelet.
Lauren is also the artistic director and a featured soloist for the festivals Opéra dans tous ses états and Les Voix Lyriques d’été in Saint-Quay-Portrieux. She has created and produced several original projects, including her one-woman show The Cabaret, the 1940s-inspired vocal trio Les Jingle Belles, and the concert series Broadway Melody, which introduces the American Songbook to French audiences. She collaborates regularly with pianists and musical directors Mathieu Serradell and Benjamin Pras.
In addition to her performing career, Lauren is an internationally sought-after vocal coach, masterclass leader, and adjudicator. Her work has taken her to institutions and events such as the Singapore Youth Festival, the West End Musical Choir, the Dutch Academy of Performing Arts, and PMTP Athens. She is currently on the vocal coaching teams at Disneyland Paris and for Le Roi Lion at Théâtre Mogador.
